Former Mayor Bloomberg has made over $2.5 billion in philanthropic contributions.

Former Mayor Bloomberg has made over $2.5 billion in philanthropic contributions. He has partered with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to fight polio, supported anti-poverty causes, helped to protect the environment, and contributed significantly to the arts. Over time, he has given more than $1 billion to Johns Hopkins University, including a $350 million donation in 2013. Bloomberg established the Bloomberg School of Public Health, a leading institution in attracting prestigious federal research grants. Bloomberg signed up for the Giving Pledge, initiated by Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, vowing to give away at least half of his net worth during his lifetime.

Mayor Bloomberg has also given generously to Jewish causes. He donated $10 million to the renovation of the Magen David Adom emergency medical center in Israel and dedicated the pediatric wing of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem in honor of his mother. He is a long-time supporter of UJA and other Jewish organizations.
